The EURODAC registry containing the fingerprints of asylum-seekers and those who have been arrested outside EU borders, 14 years and older, will soon be available for Finnish officials.

Police, customs officials and border guards will have access to the biometric database for comparing fingerprints this autumn at the very earliest, according to the Keskisuomalainen newspaper.

Police and other officials may use the database only if it is reasonable to assume that checking for fingerprints significantly contributes to fighting terrorism or human trafficking. Its purpose is to help determine which state is responsible for examining an asylum application.
