Settlement proposed to avert Finnair strike

National Conciliator Esa Lonka has presented a compromise proposal aimed at averting a strike called for Friday that could shut down flight operations by Finnair. The parties to the dispute have until 10 AM Friday morning to file their responses.

One key issue in the stalled talks between Finnair and the Finnish Cabin Crew Union and Finnish Aviation Union has been the airline's demand for agreement on a costs savings programme. According to information received by Yle, the compromise proposal tabled by the National Conciliator would drop specified savings figures from new contracts.

The two unions have issued a warning for possible strike action that could start as of 3 PM on Friday.

Finnair has already cancelled over 100 scheduled Friday flights and a number of Saturday flights. Even if the strike is averted, not all flights will be reinstated.
