No charges in Finns party Lieksa racism row

Prosecutors have decided not to bring charges against Finns party politicians over comments made about Somali groups that share their meeting rooms.

The Finns party politician at the centre of the row had demanded new, ‘clean’ meeting rooms because a multicultural working group used the same facilities as the Finns party group on Lieksa council.

The town has struggled to adjust as Somali refugees have moved there, and the committee is one measure taken to help improve integration.

After a report in the local newspaper Lieksan Lehti, national media picked up the case and police and prosecutors began their investigation. They have now decided that the politician at the centre of the row can not be charged with inciting hatred against an ethnic group.
