Half – in fact, 51 percent – of the Finnish public does not want planning permission to be granted for the construction of the Fennovoima nuclear power plant in Pyhäjoki, according to a Taloustutkimus survey commissioned by environmental group WWF.
Only 29 per cent of respondents were happy for the plant to go ahead, while one-fifth chose to sit on the fence, stating no opinion either way.
Respondents were asked: "Do you think the government should grant building permission for the current Fennovoima nuclear power plant project?" The options were "yes," "no" or "I couldn’t say".
A total of 1,056 people were interviewed for the poll. Its margin of error is 2.5 percent in either direction, with a confidence level of 95 percent.
