The Russian news agency Tass reported Wednesday that the Russian Foreign Ministry expressed concern about the fate of its national Juri Jefremov, a Finnish resident. According to the agency, the man had been detained in Finland and was facing extradition to the United States.
Foreign Ministry spokesperson Kati Pärnänen did not confirm or deny the reports to Yle.
"If he has an outstanding arrest warrant, it is possible that he has been held. However we have not received any information about an arrest," she said.
However she said that it normally takes a few days for such information to reach the ministry.
So far this year Finland has extradited two Russian citizens to the United States. Russian Foreign Ministry ombudsman Konstantin Dolgov said in a statement Wednesday that he feared that Jefremov would not be treated fairly in the US.
