Actress Kate Winslet, renowned for her role in Titanic, will give her voice to a new Moomin animation series. Winslet, who has been nominated for an Academy Award seven times, will take on the dutiful and order-loving Mrs Fillyjonk in the English version of a new Moominvalley animation premiering in 2019.
Other well-known voices are also lined up for the series, which Finland’s Gutsy Animations is jointly producing with Yle Draama.
Rosamund Pike will be the voice of Moominmamma, while Matt Berry will star as Moominpappa. The curious but sensitive Moomintroll will be played by Taron Egerton, who played Eddy 'the Eagle' Edwards in his 2016 biopic 'Eddy the Eagle'. British author Will Self will voice the muskrat role.
In Finland, the Moominvalley series will be produced in Finnish and Swedish, but the actors for the animation have not been selected yet. Yle will broadcast the series beginning in spring 2019.
The Moomin books, written and illustrated by Tove Jansson, have been translated into more than 50 languages.
