The commissioning of the third nuclear reactor at Olkiluoto (OL3) has been delayed once again. Teollisuuden Voima (TVO), the plant's operator, announced that trial operations will start by 10 February, four days behind schedule.
Olkiluoto 3 has become notorious due to the length and number of delays, as the reactor was originally slated for completion in 2009.
Regular energy production at OL3 is now expected to start on 14 March.
TVO spokesperson Johanna Aho said the most recent delay was due to maintenance work regarding a pump seal. OL3 will, however, reach nearly full power output this month, according to Aho.
The 1.6-gigawatt OL3 is Finland's fifth and biggest reactor, and is expected to produce around 14 percent of the country's electricity once it is fully operational.
