Finland's First Lady Jenni Haukio — wife of President Sauli Niinistö — will in the future be referred to as Dr Haukio, following the completion of a doctoral degree in political science.
Tabloid Ilta-Sanomat reported that the name change was confirmed by the Office of the President.
"The Office of the President of the Republic of Finland has been using the title 'spouse of the President of the Republic, Dr Jenni Haukio' since December 2022, when the University of Helsinki confirmed Haukio's doctorate and degree in political science," the office told IS.
In the past, former President Tarja Halonen's spouse was also addressed as Dr Pentti Arajärvi.
Haukio's doctoral thesis focused on the digitisation of political party campaigns.
She is scheduled to release a memoir detailing her life as Finland's first lady this coming spring.
