Coldest day of winter recorded in Utsjoki

Temperatures in the northernmost Finnish municipality plunged as low as -35 degrees.

Kevojärvi weather station in Utsjoki, northern Finnish Lapland, recorded Finland's coldest temperature reading of the winter on Monday.

The mercury dropped to -35.0 degrees Celsius, making it the lowest reading recorded this winter so far, according to the Finnish Metereological Institute (FMI).

The previous record, -34.8 degrees, was recorded on 7 January in Muonio, western Lapland.
