Tallink Silja cancelled the scheduled departure of the Baltic Princess from Turku port on Sunday evening, citing a technical problem with the vessel's automation system.

The service had been due to sail to Käpellskär in Sweden, carrying 540 passengers. Kapellskär port is located about 90 kilometres north of Stockholm.

The ferry had just returned to service following maintenance that lasted nearly two weeks.

In a press release, the company said all passengers have been offered the option of a refund or to reschedule their journeys.

Tallink had previously stated that the Baltic Princess will return to its normal schedule on Monday, but confimed on Monday afternoon that Monday evening's sailing has also been cancelled.
