Schools across Finland hosted ceremonies on Saturday marking the end of the academic year.

The custom sees hundreds of thousands of children and their families attend special Saturday morning sessions at their schools to celebrate the academic year and the beginning of summer holidays.

Finnish President Sauli Niinistö congratulated this year's cohort in a tweet in Finnish and Swedish.

This year about 25,100 high schoolers graduated, roughly 400 more than the previous year. Vocational school graduates will also be celebrated later this week.
