Rainy weather in store for most of Finland on Thursday

Friday will still be relatively cool, but on Sunday temperatures across many areas may breach the 20-degree mark, even in Lapland.

A precipitation system approaching from the west will sweep over most of Finland over the course of Thursday, according to Yle meteorologist Aleksi Lohtander.

It will be cloudy in southern and central areas on Wednesday, with temperatures around 20 degrees Celsius in the south and about 15 degrees in central areas in the afternoon.

Rain and local showers are also expected in northern areas on Wednesday, with local temperatures just above or below 10 degrees.

Thursday will be cooler than Wednesday in the south, with daytime high temperatures of around 15 degrees. Showers are expected across most of the country on Thursday.

Friday will still be relatively cool, but on Sunday temperatures across many areas may breach the 20-degree mark, even in Lapland.

"There is a forecast for warmer weather starting on Sunday," Lohtander said.

There are warnings for the risk of forest fires issued in southern and southwestern areas on Wednesday. According to the Finnish Meteorological Institute, those forest fire warnings will expand into central, eastern and western areas by Sunday.
