Thunderstorms and heavy rain hit Finland on Sunday in places in the south and west of the country, according to the Finnish Meteorological Institute.
A low pressure front in southern Scandinavia drove a weather system into Finland from across the Baltic Sea during Saturday night and Sunday morning. The system brought rain and thunderstorms to much of the south.
Rainfall of more than 30 millimetres in an hour was recorded Sunday morning in Finland's southernmost mainland municipality of Hanko.
The weather cleared up a little in the Southwest Finland and Satakunta regions. The rain front moved inland later on Sunday afternoon.
Rain continued to occur during the day on Sunday in western regions of the country.
Much of this weather system was expected to disperse as it heads inland, but more rain is on the way for Monday as a separate system heads north from Estonia to Finland.
