Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has awarded Finnish Parliamentary Speaker Jussi Halla-aho (Finns) the Order of Prince Yaroslav the Wise's medal of honour, 2nd class.

The award is the nation's second highest distinction that can be given to a foreign citizen, and is handed out in recognition of "distinguished services to the state and people" of Ukraine.

In a press release, the Finnish Parliament reported that Ukraine's speaker of parliament Ruslan Stefantshuk presented Halla-aho with the award following a meeting between the two counterparts on Friday.

Halla-aho thanked President Zelensky for the honour, the statement added.

Ukraine's Ambassador to Finland Olga Dibrova also congratulated Halla-aho, noting his "personal leadership and contribution to maintaining national and international unity in support of the Ukrainian people".
