Niinistö headed to Portugal for EU presidents' meeting

The informal two-day meeting begins on Thursday.

Finnish President Sauli Niinistö is headed to Porto, Portugal this week to attend an informal meeting of the Arraiolos Group of European presidents.

Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa is hosting the two-day meeting which begins on Thursday, and includes the presidents of 14 EU member states.

The leaders are scheduled to discuss issues including European security and the situation in Ukraine.

Niinistö is also expected to hold bilateral talks with Rebelo de Sousa and other heads of state, according to the Finnish president's office.

The Arraiolos Group has held informal sessions at the presidential level since 2003, and the gathering has previously been held in Finland, in 2005 and 2012, the president's office said.
