The Sibelius Violin Competition will begin on Sunday, Nov. 22nd at 12 pm at the Helsinki Conservatory Concert Hall with a drawing. The youngest competitor will draw a name, who will be the first one to play on Monday at 10 a.m. From there on, the competitors will play in alphabetical order.
The chairman of the jury Lauri Tarasti and the administrative head of the Helsinki Conservatory Harri Pellikka will welcome the participants.
234 violinists from 29 countries sent their applications to the competition by August. The final number of participants is 39, of which four are Finnish.

The Prizes
1st prize 25.000 euros
2nd prize 18.000 euros
3rd prize 12.000 euros
The remaining three finalists will receive a recognition prize of 2000 euros each.
The Helsinki Conservatory Fund will donate a recognition prize of 3000 euros.
The Sibelius Family will donate a special prize of 1000 euros for each of the semi-finalists.
The awarded participants will be granted concert performances.
