Exclusive world premiere of the concert video Nightwish in Mexico City! Available worldwide for free at To Nightwish with Love website from August 28, 2016 to August 28, 2017.
Nightwish have visited Mexico eight times during 2000–2016 and played a total of 16 shows there. This footage is from the band’s 12th concert ever in Mexico City.
Teatro Metropólitan is one of the most famous theatres in Mexico and started out as a movie theater in 1943. It was closed down in 1985, renovated ten years later in 1995 and re-opened in 1996 as a concert venue with a capacity of 3,165.
Nightwish played Teatro Metropólitan for two successive, sold-out nights in 2015. This footage was edited from the latter show.
One of our skillful To Nightwish with Love documentarists, Mexican Mariem Henaine, saw the concert and gave us short comments on the subject.
It's one of the best concerts I've ever been to!
"I had seen them 2 times before the 15th of October, 2015, actually", says Mariem. "My very first metal concert was Nightwish at the Circo Volador on December 2004 during the Once Upon a Tour and the second time I saw them was at the Teatro Metropólitan on November 29th, 2012 during the Imaginaerum World Tour."
How did you like the 2015 concert at Teatro Metropólitan?
"I absolutely LOVED the concert! I had never seen The Poet and the Pendulum live, so that was a treat. I especially liked the camaraderie displayed by all the band members during this particular song. I think they were aware that it was being recorded, because afterwards they all gave each other a nod that seemed to say: Yes! We did it!"
"Seeing my favorite songs Ghost Love Score and Wishmaster were also great and hearing Floor sing Sleeping Sun and was absolutely fantastic! Everyone displayed a huge amount of energy, that's why I love seeing them live. Watching people do what they love most is what makes going to a live performance worth it; and seeing how much effort and passion Nightwish delivers on stage is part of what makes me continue to be their fan."
How you would describe Nightwish fans in Mexico?
"Mexican fans are really passionate and devoted. Sometimes maybe a bit too much so. When there are no numbered seats, if you want to be in front, you know that you're going to have to arrive ridiculously early, like 7 am or even earlier. Some people might even sleep there the night before. It's crazy!"
"I remember the first time I saw them live I was recovering from a neck injury, but decided I didn't care and went all the way to the front... I couldn't take more than a couple of songs among the crowd and had to move to the back because of all the jumping and shoving going on."
"Thankfully the Teatro Metropólitan has numbered seats and you can enjoy the concert a lot better, not just because you avoid the pushing and shoving, but also because the sound system is way better. Getting front row tickets is like mission impossible though, I tried twice and the best I could get was 8th row. Perhaps the only thing that rivals Mexicans' love for their favorite band is their love for sports teams, and even then sometimes the sports team loses."
What do you think about that Nightwish Live in Mexico City will be released and you are also able to see it?
"I think it's awesome!!!" Mariem rejoices. "It's one of the best concerts I've ever been to and I'm very happy I'll be able to see it again and relive the experience!"
