Talk art / Talk society: Miten taide voi muuttaa maailmaa?

19.03.2015

TALK ART/ TALK SOCIETY: HOW CAN ART CHANGE THE WORLD?

A discussion delving into the ways art can change the world with artist and director of the Beaconsfield Gallery, David Crawforth (UK), artist Tellervo Kalleinen (Finland).
The discussion focuses on what is an artists role in creating change and social impact - and what are the current topics in the world of contemporary art. It also questions arts social value - is it’s value attached to creative enterprise, the economy or communal work? Could art change the attitudes and understanding of people and is this the goal artists would need to set themselves?
The discussion is moderated by Pauliina Ståhlberg, director of the Finnish Institute in London and it is planned and curated by Johanna Vakkari, head of arts & culture programme.

TELLERVO KALLEINEN is a Helsinki based visual artist. Working with moving image, performances, games and events, she constructs situations which people are invited to join. The works have often a strong social psychological aspect, touching the tension between individual and collective needs. She has worked with her partner Oliver Kochta-Kalleinen since 2003 - and her artistic practice is based on creative collaboration and absurd collective adventures. She has exhibited her works internationally and won awards including the prestigious Ars Fennica award in 2014. http://studiokalleinen.net

DAVID CRAWFORTH is a London based visual artist and director of artist run space Beaconsfield. His object-centered work has been complemented by an ongoing preoccupation with the interdisciplinary and collaborative.
