Our value to audiences in 2020

Yle monitors its strategic goals and how the Finnish public perceives its activities through regular public surveys.

In 2020, Finns’ trust in Yle’s social importance and its success in realising its public service duty was further strengthened.

Yle's long run customer goals 2020

  1. We reach all the Finns (during the week - goal 95 %) Result: 96 %
  2. Yle's relevance in own media use (goal 7.5/10) Result: 7.3
  3. Yle's importance in Finnish society (goal 8/10) Result: 8.4
  • 85% of Finns thought that Yle’s contents and services were interesting

  • 86% of Finns trust Yle’s news service

  • 60% saw Yle as Finland’s number one news agency

  • 70% of Finns believed that Yle is very reliable or fairly reliable, and 20% consider it very reliable.

  • 77% of Finns feel that they receive very or fairly good value for their Yle tax payment

  • a score of 4.71 (on a scale of 1–6) for our public service performance

  • a score of 4.49 (on a scale of 1–6) from the Swedish-speaking audience for Swedish Yle’s public service performance

Domestic contents and timely information play an important role in crisis situations

According to the Finnish public, the provision of domestic content that they can follow in their native language and timely information on crises and accidents are among Yle’s most valuable services. Finnish audiences also value the reliability of Yle’s information and the convenient ways in which they can access Yle’s contents and services. 

Finns also considered it important that Yle:

  • provides high-quality cultural experiences for all, regardless of their level of income and wealth

  • produces high-quality children’s programming and services for children

  • helps people better understand the changes taking place in Finland and elsewhere in the world

  • also offers services to special groups

  • provides a variety of perspectives, world views and ideas to its audiences

  • helps people increase their general knowledge and learn the information and skills they need in today’s world

The majority of people in Finland consider Yle a responsible and at least fairly transparent operator. Poll respondents would like to receive more information on, for example, Yle’s choices regarding its contents, its operations in general, and how it uses its Yle tax funds.
