The new piano concerto by Finnish-Canadian Matthew Whittall was inspired by the sea – both real and mythical. The piano floats and dips in the orchestral waves, channelling Ur-strength into the listener. The soloist is Risto-Matti Marin, an Odysseus of the lesser-known regions of piano literature.
