Grand Old Man Herbert Blomstedt is back with the FRSO
“Herbert Blomstedt is a real godsend for us,” says our General Manager Tuula Sarotie. The FRSO is one of the few orchestras still regularly visited by the over 90-year-old veteran known for his calm intellectualism and good humour. “The most important thing in life is to be sincere. Vanity stinks,” he says. Above all he wants to convey spiritual energy to the orchestra. He gave up using a baton because he felt it was a symbol of power and an obstacle to musical interaction.
