Love never dies in the sonnets of Pablo Neruda

When American Peter Lieberson was composing his cycle of five songs to poems by Pablo Neruda, he was personally reliving their message. He began writing them for bass-baritone Gerald Finley in 2007 when, while grieving for his late wife, he was diagnosed with cancer and undergoing gruelling treatments. The love in Neruda’s texts is, however, unending; it never ceases to flow, and as he composed, Lieberson encountered a new love, was given extra time to see his daughters grow up, and found inspiration again.
