Alisa Weilerstein, “the new Jacqueline du Pré, as the soloist
Matthias Pintscher, Music Director of the Ensemble Intercontemporain, wrote his soft, lyrical second cello concerto for tonight’s soloist, Alisa Weilerstein, “the new Jacqueline du Pré”, in 2017. When Brahms and a friend played the symphony on the piano for a few trusted friends, the result was a crushing silence. The symphony did, however, get a warm reception at its orchestral debut.
