Forests are literally ubiquitous in Finland and that makes them one of the prime destinations for people looking to combine exercise with an affordable and easy way to de-stress.

In collaboration with Metsähallitus, the state-owned forest management company, Yle is launching a summer of trail-running fun nationwide.

Digital trail-running maps will be available online as part of the project, which will be known as Mennään metsään or 'Let's head to the forest'. The maps will be available from 13 April at the addressäänmetsään and at the website.

The project will be run by Marko Krapu, an Executive Producer in Yle's Broadcast unit and a passionate trail-runner.

"I want to share this journey with as many people as possible, because I know myself how happy the forest and trail running can make people," said Krapu. "We have unique forests here in Finland and the national parks are the jewels in the crown."

The series of fun runs in all 40 Finland's national parks starts on 14 April in Nuuksio, Espoo, which is easily accessible from central Helsinki. Following that there will be a series of similar events across the country. The Nuuksio event will be televised live on TV2.
