HBO has greenlighted its second Nordic series called "Beforeigners," a satirical science fiction series, according to entertainment industry magazine Variety.

The new show's creators Anne Bjørnstad and Eilif Skodvin were also behind the Scandinavian-based gangster comedy series Lilyhammer.

"Beforeigners" will star Finnish actor Krista Kosonen, recently seen in the sci-fi movie "Blade Runner 2049," and Norwegian actor Nicolai Cleve Broch who's known from the Norwegian crime drama series "Acquitted".

"Beforeigners" takes place in the near future and combines different genres including time travel, crime and comedy in six episodes.

One of the show's executive producers, Hanne Palmquist said the setting of the show will be familiar to viewers but with new twists.

“‘Beforeigners is a highly original and entertaining near-future satire, set in a recognisable and yet transformed society where coexistence is a whole new ball game,” Palmquist told Variety.

It remains unclear when "_Beforeigner_s" will hit screens, but will premiere on HBO Nordic's video streaming service.

As options expand to stream content to anywhere in the world, HBO is becoming an increasingly international network and producing more programming in languages other than English.

The network's US branch is well known for shows like "Game of Thrones", "The Wire"and "Curb Your Enthusiasm", but last year HBO Europe produced and released its first original miniseries - in the Czech language - called "Burning Bush".
