Carl Haglund, who for years was prominent on Finland's political scene, is switching jobs in the private sector.

Former minister Haglund started his new job at Accenture on Monday, and will lead the global consulting company's Nordic banking and insurance unit, according to a press release.

Haglund left national politics in 2016 when he took a job at Chinese bioenergy firm Sunshine Kaidi New Energy Group. He announced he was leaving that post earlier this year.

During his political career Haglund, 39, served as defence minister under PMs Jyrki Katainen and his successor Alexander Stubb from 2012 up to 2015.

He was also a member of the European Parliament for some three years until 2012 when he was elected chair of the Swedish People's Party.
