CNN lists Finland's Lake Inari as one of Europe’s "most beautiful places"

The 24-hour news service’s travel site described Lake Inari as the perfect backdrop for watching the Northern Lights.

"A year-round paradise," is how US news service CNN described Finnish Lapland's Lake Inari (Inarijärvi in Finnish) as part of its roundup of the 20 most beautiful places to visit in Europe.

The listing on CNN’s travel site aimed to introduce travellers to less popular destinations on the continent, which it said might be familiar mainly to residents and the more adventurous.

One of the travel site’s recommendations regarding the northern Finland destination it singled out was that it provided the perfect backdrop for observing the Northern Lights.

It also noted that as the epicentre of Sámi culture, the north represents Finland at its most traditional.

Other well-kept destination secrets on CNN’s list included Norway’s Lofoten Islands, the dunes of Henne Strand in Denmark and Lake Vattern in Sweden, among others.
