Southwest Finland hospital district introduces Covid-19 drug

The orally administered drug is only available through hospital pharmacies.

Pfizer's orally administered antiviral Covid-19 medication Paxlovid is being introduced this week in the hospital district of Southwest Finland.

The medicine can be obtained by persons in at-risk groups and can only be prescribed after a positive Covid test result.

According to the district, treatment must be started within five days of the onset of Covid symptoms.

The drug will be made available only through hospital pharmacies.

The medicine will be distributed to Southwest Finland hospital district's emergency clinics, as well as hospitals in Salo, Vakka-Suomi and Loimaa. The medicine will also be sent to the central hospitals of Pori in Satakunta, Vaasa in Ostrobothnia, and Mariehamn in Åland.
