Temperatures at Heinola's Asemantaus observation station broke a Finnish record for heat on Tuesday.

At 31.1 degrees Celsius, it was the highest temperature in Finland's measurement history for the second half of August.

The Finnish Meteorological Institute tweeted (siirryt toiseen palveluun) that this was highest in the period between 16 and 31 August since 1959, when recording began.

As of Tuesday afternoon, temperatures are still rising throughout the country, as Finland experiences a heatwave uncharacteristic for the latter half of August.
