China's President Xi to visit Finland

Finnish President Sauli Niinistö will host Chinese President Xi Jinping and his delegation on April 5. Xi's next destination is Mar-a-Lago, Florida where he will meet US president Donald Trump. Xi's scheduled visit marks the second time a Chinese president has visited Finland - the last having taken place more than 20 years ago.

China's President Xi Jinping and his wife Peng Liyuan are to arrive in Finland on a state visit on April 5.

Xi will be hosted by Finnish President Sauli Niinistö and his spouse Jenni Haukio at the Presidential Palace in Helsinki.

The itinerary includes a private conversation between the two presidents. Discussions will include political and economic relations between Finland and China and topical international affairs.

A high-level delegation will accompany President Xi on his visit to Finland.

Xi will also meet Parliamentary Speaker Maria Lohela and Prime Minister Juha Sipilä.

Niinistö made an official visit to China in April, 2013. Xi and Niinistö also met in the Netherlands in March, 2014.

The first and only presidential visit made so far from China to Finland took place in 1995, when President Jiang Zemin made a state visit to Finland.

Xi's next destination is Mar-a-Lago, Florida where he will meet US President Donald Trump.

Before meeting with Xi, Niinistö is scheduled on Thursday to meet with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Arkhangelsk for the Arctic Forum.
