Turku Shipyard to Axe 400 Jobs
Over 400 jobs could be axed at the Turku shipyard owned by STX Europe. The company is to start consultative talks with its entire staff due to poor market conditions. Around 2,300 people are employed at its Turku shipyard. Lay-offs and part-time working will be expanded in all personnel sectors.
Shipyard Director Jari Anttila says over 400 jobs could go but he did not give a precise figure.
Production at the shipyard has sharply fallen since last spring with forecasts of new orders few and far between. Currently one cruise liner, Allure of the Seas, is under construction at the yard but no other large orders are in the pipeline.
