The Finnish Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority (STUK) says confusion exists worldwide over the condition of the crippled Japanese nuclear plant at Fukushima. Director General Jukka Laaksonen claims the authority probably has the best picture of events there due to Finnish expertise in reactor physics. Laaksonen says it appears radioactive discharges are largely going into the sea. Accordingly, he does not anticipate further major airborne radiation leaks. Over the weekend there were conflicting reports concerning another radiation leak at the plant.
