The intent is for the theme to embrace Finland and Finnishness in terms of the polarities associated with the country: light vs. darkness, northern fells vs. islands in the south, a strong bond to nature vs. rapid technological development, taciturnity against inner strength and creative madness.
YLE invited about a dozen visual design professionals and companies to develop ideas for the look and the set design. The European Broadcasting Union’s Steering Committee met at the end of last week and approved the plans, praising the courage to appoint young talent to design a major international event.
The graphic design firm Dog Design will create the visual look. The set design will be created by the team of students from the University of Art and Design Helsinki.
The telecom company TeliaSonera, will sponsor the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest, which will culminate next spring with the Semi-final (10 May) and the Final (12 May) at the Helsinki Arena.
The theme’s visual look will be unveiled in January.
