21 suspects in conscript assault case
Three career soldiers and 18 conscripts are suspected of keeping recruits in the snow without clothes or shoes.
Soldiers in the Air Force Academy could face charges related to an incident last November in which conscripts from the Army’s Pori Brigade were kept in the snow without clothes or shoes during a military exercise.
A total of 21 soldiers, including three career servicemen and 18 conscripts, are suspected of assault and misconduct.
A criminal probe was launched when it emerged that prisoners were taken and interrogations conducted during a military exercise.
The suspects admitted stripping the ‘prisoners’ and keeping them for long periods in the snow, while others were also detained for shorter periods in an ice-hole on a lake.
Some of the victims received light injuries and sought seek medical attention.
The case is now to be considered by senior military police, who will decide whether or not to pass the file on to prosecutors.
