Dallas Wings’ first round draft pick Awak Kuier, 19, is set to make her historic debut in the WNBA series against the Atlanta Dreams. When she takes to the court on Thursday evening in the United States, she will become the first Finnish player to play in the premier women's professional league.
The game starts at 2am Finnish time and will be broadcast on Yle Areena.
Kuier travelled to the United States last week, where she has been training with the team, and has also travelled with the team to Atlanta.
Kuier made Finnish basketball history earlier this spring, when she became only the second Finnish player, after Taru Tuukkanen, to be drafted for the WNBA. Dallas Wings selected Kuier with the second overall pick in the 2021 WNBA draft. Although Tuukkonen was drafted, she never played or signed a contract in the league.
The Wings have played three games this season, winning one and losing two.
