Body of UN Peacekeeper Flown Home to Finland

The body of the Finnish UN Peacekeeper who died in Afghanistan on Tuesday has been flown home to Finland. An army plane brought a coffin containing the body of Jukka Kansonen back to Helsinki Vantaa airpot on Thursday evening.

Relatives had a chance to say their final goodbyes before the coffin was taken away accompanied by a police escort.

First Lieutenant Kansonen died on Tuesday after a roadside bomb exploded near the town of Aybak in Samangan Province. The blast caused one of the army vehicles to overturn which caused the death of the officer. Finnish political leaders have expressed their condolences over the attack.
