Budget bus route application rejected

Authorities have rejected an application by the Onnibus company to begin a budget bus service from Jyväskylä via the Hervanta district of Tampere to Turku harbour. Officials say that the plan would have interfered with existing services.

The application was for a daily round trip service on the route.

According to the official ruling, if it had been approved the new service would have caused "continuous and serious" disruption to existing services.

According to the Onnibus company, it would have formed the only connection between evening passenger ship arrivals in Turku, Jyväskylä and other parts of Central Finland.

The company's CEO Pekka Mötto described the decision as "incomprehensible".
