Drug Prices in Finland Higher than European Average

The prices of medicines in Finland are well above the European average. According to a price comparison made in 2005, pharmaceuticals in Finland were 11 percent higher than the average in the European Union.

The Nordic Countries all had expensive drugs. In Iceland, medicines were the second highest in Europe.

The most expensive medicines were in Switzerland, where the price level is nearly double that of the EU average. The cheapest drugs were available in Macedonia.

The study by Eurostat included both brand name and generic preparations.
