Environmental Organisation: Consume Fewer Natural Resources

This week, the Finnish Association for Nature Conservation is calling on residents to examine their ecological footprint. In an effort to raise environmental awareness, the environmental organisation wants Finns to cut their household consumption of natural resources.

Each Finn consumes about a truckload -- or 40 tonnes -- of natural resources annually. Experts say that transport, housing and food deplete the most natural resources in Finland. However, driving a car leads the pack in terms of exhausting natural resources.

The Finnish Association for Nature Conservation launched its first environmental awareness week calling on people to consume frugally in 1986.
