Estonia Considers Sex Purchase Ban

Estonia is considering a law that would criminalise the purchase of sex services. This comes after the Finnish government made a similar proposal in December.

According to the newspaper Helsingin Sanomat, key ministers in Estonia have come out in favour of a ban on buying sex services.

There have been fears in Estonia that new legislation in Finland would drastically increase the sex tourism by Finns to Estonia. However, many also disagree with an Estonia ban. The head of the Department of Women's Studies for the Estonian Institute for Open Society Research, Helve Kase, says prostitutes should not be seen as victims.
