Finland one of World's Leading Countries in Press Freedom

Finland and six other countries share the number-one position in freedom of the press. All of the top ten countries in a report by the Paris-based Reporters without Borders are European countries.

In the comparison of 167 countries, Estonia took eleventh place, and Sweden was number 12. The United States fell by more than 20 steps to number 44. Russia was number 138.

The situation for press freedom was worst in North Korea, Eritrea, and Turkmenistan, where only official government information is published, and where there is no private ownership of the media.
