Finland Should Strenghten its Position in the EU

Finland should work to strengthen both its own position in the EU as well as the future of Europe. Finns see these issues as the most important goals during Finland’s EU presidency, according to a recent poll.

According to a poll commissioned by the newspapers Etelä-Suomen Sanomat and Satakunnan Kansa, about 20 percent of Finns believe that Finland should emphasize strengthening the role of Finland in the EU and the future of Europe. Promoting social equality in Europe and protecting the environment were also deemed important.

Opening up decision-making in the EU and improving economic competition were seen as less important.

About 1,000 people participated in the survey carried out in June by Taloustutkimus. The margin of error was measured at 3 percent.
