Finland Takes Silver in European Figure Skating Championships

Italy's Carolina Kostner won her third European figure skating gold in Tallinn on Saturday with a total of 173.46 points. Finland's defending champion, Laura Lepistö, who placed third in the short programme on Friday, skated into second place in the long freeskating finale.

Kiira Korpi's slip from second to fourth place behind Georgia's Elene Gedenashvili dampened the Finnish skaters' mood. Susanna Pöykiö's withdrawal before the free skate because of back pains was also a disappointment.

Lepistö and Korpi, the two best Finnish skaters at the competition, will represent Finland at the Winter Olympics in Vancouver in three weeks’ time.
