Finland’s Granlund stuns in overtime in ice hockey play-off

Finnish ice hockey centre Mikael Granlund scored a stunning goal in overtime during a NHL match between his team the Minnesota Wild and the Colorado Avalanche to steal a 1-0 win. The goal gave Wild their first win against Avalanche and a fighting chance in the best of seven series.

Granlund lunged toward the goal five minutes into overtime Monday night to give the Minnesota Wild their first win of the seven-game series against the Colorado Avalanche.

Wild were already down two games against the Avalanche, so the sterling effort by the 22-year old put some wind into his teammates’ sails as they head into another confrontation Thursday.

Granlund had an otherwise stellar game, taking seven shots at goal, all but one thwarted by the indefatigable Avalanche goalie, Semyon Varlamov, who ended the evening having blocked 45 of 46 shots.
