Finland's Oldest Post Office to Close

The oldest post office in Finland, in Eckerö in the semi-autonomous Åland Islands, is to be shut down. The post office has operated for 180 years in the Eckerö post and customs house designed by Engel and Bass. The administration of the Åland postal service decided to close the post office at the end of March. After that, postal services will be available at a nearby village store. The closure of the historic post office has sparked considerable opposition in Åland, where a petition opposed to the move has attracted 650 signatures. YLE
