Finnair flights cancelled due to hurricane

Finnair has cancelled this weekend’s flights between Helsinki and New York because of hurricane Irene. No decision has yet been made on Monday’s flights, and travellers are advised to follow Finnair’s website for updates.

Finnair’s head of communications Maria Mroue said on Saturday that the weekend’s flights were nearly full, so every flight would have carried close to 200 passengers. Their tickets have been switched to other flights or they have cancelled their trips.

Finnair says that travellers can change their flights to the end of September, or if they prefer, they can have their money back. That also applies to Monday’s flights.

The first cancelled flight is the 14:10 service from Helsinki Vantaa to New York. That plane usually leaves New York in the evening local time, arriving in Finland the following morning.

John F Kennedy, La Guardia and Newark airports will all close to incoming flights from 19:00 Finnish time on Saturday.
