Finnair technical staff on strike

Nearly 1000 Finnair personnel walked off the job Thursday to protest the start of talks to cut around 300 technical operations jobs. The action caused some delays and flight cancellations.

National carrier Finnair estimates that they can fly the majority of flights as normal despite the industrial action.

Staffers are set to return to work at 3 pm Friday, but some afternoon flights to Bangkok and Budapest have been cancelled.

Some flights to and from Budapest, Dusseldorf, Seoul, Beijing and Bangkok were grounded on Friday and a charter flight to Tenerife was delayed by 13 hours.

While most flights look set to return to normal by early evening Friday, passengers are advised to check online departure schedules in advance.
