Finnish Broadcasting Company Contemplates More Savings Measures

The Finnish Broadcasting Company-YLE is looking at further savings measures. Two radio channels and one TV channel could fall under the axe.

Among those under consideration could be the close down of two radio channels, the Finnish language Radio Peili and the Swedish youth channel Radio Extrem. Digital TV channel Yle Extra might also fall under the axe.

YLE's Managing Director Mikael Jungner says closing down the channels is one alternative. The savings measures were discussed by the company's board on Thursday and will be considered at a meeting next Tuesday of its Administrative Council.

A reduction of 50,000 TV licence payers following the switchover from analogue to digital services is to be blame for additional cost cutting measures.
