Finnish Researchers Find Migraine Genes

Finnish researchers have discovered a region of genes that makes people susceptible to migraines. The group, under the direction of Aarno Palotie, found a particularly strong connection between the gene region and migraines in women. Over 4,000 people who suffer from migraines, as well as their relatives, participated in the study. Participants hail from Finland and Australia. Researchers hope this latest discover can help with the development of more effective pain medication. Migraines are the most common neurological disorders treated by doctors. About 15 percent of the population suffers from migraines. In Europe alone, 41 million people experience migraines. YLE
