Finns Invest More in Stocks

Finns are investing more money in stocks, despite the financial crisis. Thousands of book-entry accounts were opened last year, and the numbers are steadily rising.

Sirkka-Liisa Roine, President of the Finnish Foundation for Share Promotion, says that during last year's quarter, over 10,000 new stockowners entered the book-entry system.

"This is surprising, and it's also noteworthy that this is a change of course. Saving in shares has been decreasing for a long time, but now it seems that a change happened at the end of the year," says Roine.

Tomi Salo, Executive Director of the Finnish Shareholders Association, thinks a reason for this might be a general drop in share prices.
